Calpine and ExxonMobil Sign CO2 Transportation and Storage Agreement for CCS Project in Texas

LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. PNM Begins Building 225 Megawatt Power Plant

LCG, Nov. 16, 2001--Public Service Co. of New Mexico broke ground yesterday on a new power plant in southern New Mexico near the chile pepper capital of Las Cruces.

The 225 megawatt natural gas-fueled plant will be built in two phases, with 135 megawatts produced in simple cycle scheduled to be in commercial operation by the end of October, next year. The plant will then be expanded to its full combined-cycle output by the fall of 2003.

"Building a new generating station reinforces our commitment to expand our wholesale business focus," said PNM Executive Vice President Bill Real. "It is also part of our promise to invest in New Mexico in order to improve the reliability of the regional power supply."

PNM said the new plant would sell its power into the Western wholesale market. The company noted that it had recently signed a contract with Texas-New Mexico Power Co. to provide electricity for that company's customers in southern New Mexico. Afton will supply some of that power.
