World Record Goes to Sioux Plant

LCG, April 2, 2002-Ameren's 34-year-old Unit 2 of the Sioux plant broke the world record for continuous operation of a plant of its kind.

Located in St. Charles, Missouri, the cyclone-fired supercritical boiler unit made it to its 246th day of continuous operation yesterday and then went off-line for maintenance. The next best record, that of a Tennessee Valley Authority unit, is 194 days.

Sioux's Unit 2, located on the Mississippi River some 28 miles from St. Louis, can consume petroleum coke, coal and tire chips, and has generated 5,960,000 megawatt-hours over its lifetime.

Ameren serves 1.5 million customers in Illinois and Mississippi.
