CA ISO Asks for Limited Use Due to Fire

LCG, June 20, 2002--The California Independent System Operator has requested that voluntary load curtailment be instated due to a Tejon Pass wildfire.

Southern California Edison has been asking electricity customers to limit their electricity use until midnight. Large industrial, commercial, and agricultural customers have said that they will limit their usage until threatened high voltage transmission lines can be used again.

If, for whatever reason, the available reserve power goes below 1.5%, the ISO can tell Southern California Edison to "drop load," and instate rolling blackouts, such as were used in 2000 and 2001 during the California electricity crisis.
