LCG, October 11, 2022--The U.S. Energy Information Administration, or EIA, released its latest supplement to the Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) in the Texas market, assessing various possible scenarios using LCG’s UPLAN NPM model, with a special focus on the effects on wholesale power prices and market conditions.

LCG, September 16, 2022--The Governor of Michigan last week sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in support of Holtec International’s application for a federal grant under the Civil Nuclear Credit (CNC) program to save the Palisades Nuclear Facility in Southwest Michigan. The federal grant could result in restarting the baseload, carbon-free, nuclear power plant.

Proposed Massachusetts Wind Farm Causes Stir
LCG, July 24, 2002-A proposed wind farm on 25 square miles of Nantucket Sound near Cape Cod has not been received well by residents despite its supposed environmentally friendly nature.Cape Wind Associates would like to build a large wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts and is asking for approval to build. The $700 million project would consist of 170 turbines in the Nantucket Sound, some of which would be four miles from Cape Cod.The company claims that the sound is the best place for a wind farm in the Northeast and that the proposed project could generate power for over half a million homes, or over 500 MW. Some opponents contend that the open ocean is public domain, and those attempting to build on it should pay fees for usage as oil and mining companies do.Residents and others worry about the unpleasant appearance of turbines, visible from Cape Cod, especially including construction and maintenance barges and platforms. Impact on tourism, wildlife, commercial fishing and general navigation of the sound are other concerns that have been raised. 10 environmental groups have joined forces to call for an environmental study of the project.
