LCG, August 19, 2026--Duke Energy announced Monday that its 2026 Carolinas Resource Plan was submitted August 14 to the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC). The company states that its strategy is designed to maximize the value of existing resource assets while (i) making prudent investments in additional diverse resources needed to serve South Carolina's growing population and economy and (ii) maintaining its focus on delivering safe, reliable and affordable energy. The PSCSC will now evaluate the 2026 Carolinas Resource Plan, hold a hearing in April 2027 and issue an order by June 2027.

Aging Oil-Fired Plants to Fill in For Japanese Nuclear Plants
LCG, Oct. 25, 2002--Following an extended shutdown of four Japanese nuclear reactors for safety inspections, the utility Chubu Electric Power Co. has announced it will keep oil-fired plants in operation as long as needed to make up for the reduced capacity.Two plants at the Nishi Nagoya station were scheduled to be mothballed late this month, but instead, No. 5 and No. 6, each at 500 megawatts, will be kept in service for the foreseeable future. Three nuclear reactors are down for maintenance checks and another was shut down when it was discovered in September that water pipes had cracked. Top officials at another Japanese utility, Tepco, were forced to resign following disclosures of false reporting of maintenance tests.The oil-fired plants are normally used for peaking capacity, not base load. Chubu said in a statement, "Under such circumstances, we decided on the postponement...to ensure stable power supply in the future."
