Duke Completes 168-MW Ironwood Windpower Project in Kansas

LCG, October 19, 2012--Duke Energy Renewables and Sumitomo Corp. of America announced yesterday the completion of the joint venture partners' Ironwood Windpower Project in Ford County, Kansas. The electricity generated by the project and the associated renewable energy credits (RECs) will be purchased by Westar Energy under a 20-year, power purchase agreement (PPA).

The Ironwood Windpower Project is located on a 7,450 acre site and includes 73 Siemens SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW. The hub height is 262 feet, with a rotor diameter of 331 feet. Construction commenced a year ago.

The Ironwood Windpower Project will be operated and maintained by Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy. Duke Energy Renewables announced the Ironwood project back in May 2011.
