LCG, March 205, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) today announced it will soon be the first regional transmission organization (RTO) in the nation to provide full services in both the Eastern and Western Interconnections of the U.S. power grid. On March 20, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) unanimously approved Southwest Power Pool’s amended tariff that includes provisions that enable Western members to join the RTO. The expansion of the SPP RTO is scheduled to go live April 1, 2026.

117 Megawatts Goes On-line at New Illinois Plant
LCG, Aug. 4, 2000--The Mid-American Interconnected Network has 117 megawatts more electricity in its inventory for the hot and sultry dog days of summer, thanks to a second unit of Ameren Energy Inc.s new Gibson City, Ill., which has been connected to MAINs grid.MAIN is one of 10 regional councils of the North American Electric Reliability Council, an industry group that oversees standards and operating protocols on the nations electrical transmission network. MAINs territory includes all of Illinois and parts of Wisconsin, Missouri, and Michigan.The first unit of the Gibson City went on line June 30. According to Ameren officials, the entire plant was completed on schedule, from ground breaking to generation.MAIN has another 4,096 megawatts of new generation scheduled to come on line by the summer of next year, including two 640 megawatt Duke Energy Corp. plants in Illinois. In addition, Reliant Energy Inc. began construction in mid-June on an 870 megawatt plant in Aurora, Ill.
