LCG, July 10, 2025--The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) accepted a construction permit application for review from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to build one of the nation’s first small modular reactors (SMR). TVA submitted its application in late May to use GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design and to install the advanced nuclear plant at its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. TVA's application is the first in the U.S. that uses GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design.

LCG, July 9, 2025--Strategic Value Partners, LLC (together with its affiliates, SVP) yesterday announced that its managed funds (the "SVP Funds") have agreed to acquire Red Oak Power, an 831-MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle power generation facility located in Sayreville, New Jersey.

Power Plant Proposed at University of Wisconsin
LCG, Dec. 8, 2000--Madison Gas & Electric Co., Alliant Energy Corp. and the University of Wisconsin announced yesterday the possibility that they would combine to build a $170 million power plant on the university's Madison campus.The natural gas-fueled facility would produce between 90 and 100 megawatts of power for MG&E as well as steam and chilled water for the university's use.Provost John Wiley of the University of Wisconsin at Madison said increased heating and air conditioning capacity is essential to the university's long-term physical plant needs, especially with major building campaigns on the horizon. An initial feasibility study is expected to take six to nine months. If results of the study are approved, opportunities for public comment will include hearings by the state Public Service Commission and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the joint announcement said.Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson said "This is an excellent example of government working with private industry to solve a problem while using fewer tax dollars. The university community and Madisonresidents truly will benefit from this needed project."The infrastructure to support the facility is currently in place, including electric transmission lines, apower substation and natural gas lines that serve the immediate area. The facility would be on 4.5 acres of land that the university would lease to MG&E.
