LCG, May 18, 2026--The U.S. Secretary of Energy today issued an emergency order to address critical grid reliability issues in the Midwest anticipated this summer. The order is in effect beginning on May 19, 2026, through August 16, 2026. The emergency order directs the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), in coordination with Consumers Energy, to ensure that the J.H. Campbell coal-fired power plant (Campbell Plant) in West Olive, Michigan shall take all steps necessary to remain available to operate and to minimize costs for the region.

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

Morgan Stanley Plans 324 Megawatt Tacoma Plant
LCG, June 11, 2001--Morgan Stanley Capital Group plans to build a 324 megawatt gas-fueled power plant on 17.3 acres of land south of Tacoma, Wash., the Port of Tacoma said Friday. The Port Commission had accepted Morgan Stanley's $2.83 million bid for the land a day earlier.No timetable for development of the plant was disclosed, but "We'd like to begin work as soon as possible," said Morgan Stanley's Jim North. "Construction time is in the range of about six months once we begin grading the site."North added "Our goal here is to work with Tacoma Power and get interconnected with the grid as soon as possible."The $100 million facility will be built in the port's Frederickson industrial area, which has a natural gas pipeline running through it. Building the plant will create about 100 construction jobs and the completed facility will have around 10 permanent employees."We're very happy to be able to provide a site for a project that will increase the amount of electrical energy available to our community," said Port of Tacoma Commission President Connie Bacon. "This will help keep our economy and business climate on track."
