LCG, September 3, 2026--Fervo Energy earlier this week announced a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to enable the continued development of the Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) GeoCluster, located in southwest Utah. Under the agreement, Google will purchase carbon-free, 24/7 electricity designed to serve as a foundational building block for a potential data center in Utah. The facility is expected to come online in 2028.

Lack of Financing Delays 1,050-Megawatt Redlands, California Expansion
LCG, Apr. 5, 2002--Construction in progress on the Mountainview Power Plant in Redlands, Calif., has been stopped while AES Corp. seeks new sources of financing or a potential buyer for the project.A company spokesman said that California's recent problems and Enron's collapse have contributed to difficulties in obtaining financing. The state Public Utilities Commission's spokesman Chris Davis said, "we were counting on it for the summer of '03." Davis thinks that as long as other projects proceed according to schedule, the delay at Mountainview, planned at 1,050 megawatts, should not have a major impact on the state.Layoffs are expected to affect 400 workers who had been employed at the site, according to contractor Bechtel Corp.Glen Davis, a senior vice president of AES Pacific, said of the financial community, "they are reluctant to fund new power generators and want to see how the California situation is played out. It's a combination of a volatile market and changes in rules by government."
