LCG, December 8, 2025--Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric) and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NextEra) today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the joint development of the River Run Energy Center, a new combined-cycle natural gas-fueled generation facility in Basin Electric's North Dakota service territory. The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of approximately 1,450 MW.

Hydrogen-Fueled Generator To Go Into Production This Year
LCG, Aug. 9, 2002--A generator which runs on hydrogen and has been developed by Ballard Power Systems Inc. and Ford Motor Co. will be made available in the fourth quarter, Ballard announced Wednesday.According to Ballard officials making the announcement at a Dearborn, Mich., company site, the generator will not release carbon dioxide, and will produce very low levels of nitrogen oxide. It utilizes a Ford 6.8 liter V10 truck engine.The generator "will increase public awareness of alternative fuels and power solutions and assist in the development of hydrogen infrastructure," said Ross Witschonke, who leads Ballard's electric drives and power conversion group. The company foresees that the early adopters of the technology will be public utilities needing to meet peak demand.General Motors Corp. plans to sell stationary fuel cells to businesses requiring extremely high reliability in power supplies in 2004. The fuel cells are to be used as a source of backup generation.
