Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy Complete Acquisition of 20-MW Solar Facility in California

LCG, April 24, 2014-Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power, in partnership with Turner Renewable Energy, yesterday announced the acquisition of the Adobe Solar Facility, a 20-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) electric generating facility located in Kern County, California. The agreement to acquire the facility was announced last November, and the acquisition was closed upon successful completion of construction.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has contracted for the electric output from the facility under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The renewable energy received and delivered to customers will help SCE meet its renewable energy obligations required by California?s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).

SunEdison started construction on the Adobe Solar Facility last fall, and commercial operation is scheduled to commence in May. The facility, located on a 160-acre site, will also be operated and maintained by SunEdison.

The Southern Company Chairman, President and CEO stated, "Southern Company is committed to pursuing renewables to help build America's energy future, and solar is an important component of that effort. The acquisition of the Adobe Solar Facility - our second solar installation in California - builds on our development of the full portfolio of energy resources for the benefit of customers."

The Adobe Solar Facility is the partnership's sixth solar project. The partnership's first solar facility in California - the 139-MW Campo Verde Solar Facility - began commercial service in October 2013.
