LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

AES and Meta Announce PPAs to Provide 650 MW of Solar Capacity for Data Centers
LCG, May 22, 2025--The AES Corporation (AES) yesterday announced that it has entered into two, long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to support Meta's data centers with 650 MW of solar capacity from two AES projects that will be starting operation in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). AES expects these two solar projects will provide economic benefits to communities in Texas and Kansas, including hundreds of new construction jobs and contributing millions in long-term tax revenue.
AES's President and Chief Executive Officer stated, "AES is proud to partner with Meta to deliver reliable and affordable renewable energy that supports their data center growth and ambitious sustainability goals. By providing energy solutions that offer fast time-to-power and low-cost electricity, we continue to be the partner of choice for companies, like Meta, at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation."
"We are thrilled to work with AES to bring forward these two solar energy projects," said Meta's Global Head of Energy. "These solutions support our goal for 100% clean and renewable energy and will add new generation to the grid in these markets."
Earlier this month, AES presented its First Quarter 2025 Financial Review, which included (i) expectations of strong demand from its customers under any scenario, and (ii) that it has signed PPA's with a number of technology customers, including Google (1.5 GW), Microsoft (1.8 GW) and Amazon (3.5 GW).
