Duke Energy Submits Early Site Permit Application to NRC for New Nuclear Reactors in North Carolina

LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

FERC Okays 400-mile Ohio-Pennsylvania Pipeline

LCG, July 20, 2000--Independence Pipeline Co. said yesterday that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued an order authorizing the company to build and operate a new interstate natural gas pipeline designed to serve growth markets in Ohio, Pennsylvania and the eastern United States.

Independence Pipeline is a general partnership formed by subsidiaries of The Coastal Corp.'sANR Pipeline Company subsidiary, Williams' Transco pipeline and National Fuel Gas Company.The company said its pipeline will be strategically located to provide additional transportation capacity between increasing supplies of natural gas in the Midwest and expanding markets throughout the eastern United States.

The $678 million pipeline will consist of approximately 400 miles of 36-inch diameter pipe, extending from ANR's existing compressor station at Defiance, Ohio, to Williams' Transco's and National Fuel's facilities in Leidy, Pa. It will have an initial capacity of 916 million cubic feet per day. The company hopes to have the line in service by November 2002.
