LCG, October 16, 2026--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced on Thursday its new proposal to revise and accelerate its review of air quality effects for proposed natural gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The draft policy statement highlights revisions designed to (i) avoid unnecessary delays and duplicative analysis and (ii) deliver greater regulatory certainty and a streamlined path forward for project applicants.

LCG, October 14, 2026--American Electric Power (AEP) today announced plans for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, under which AEP will invest approximately $4 billion to advance a new 702-MW fuel cell generation project located near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Google will acquire power from Cheyenne Fuel Cell, LLC, which is approximately 92 percent owned and controlled by AEP and 8 percent owned by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners, LLP. AEP and its partners plan to start construction this year and to be fully operational by the end of 2028.

Killer Pipeline Must be Tested before Use, Feds Say
LCG, Aug. 24, 2000--The El Paso Natural Gas Co. pipeline that exploded in New Mexico last Saturday, killing 11 members of two families, must be thoroughly tested before it is put back into use, an agency of the federal government ordered yesterday.In its order, the U.S. Office of Pipeline Safety said the conduit must undergo pressure tests, be X-rayed and receive ultrasound structural testing before it can be used. The order also applies to two other pipeline located nearby.National Transportation Safety Board investigators at the site of the explosion are reported to have found corrosion in a section of the pipe that failed Saturday, but the NTSB says it will be months before it can issue a report on the cause of the explosion.Twenty-five-year-old Amanda Smith, the sole survivor from the party of 12 that went camping last weekend along the Pecos River, not far from Carlsbad Cavern National Park, remained in critical but stable condition at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. The explosion and fire claimed the lives of her parents, her two children, her husband and her in-laws.
