LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

BG&E Wins Another Round from Mapsa
LCG, Sept. 22, 2000A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge yesterday issued a 25-page order and opinion upholding the approval by the Maryland Public Service Commission of the electric restructuring settlement agreement with Baltimore Gas & Electric Co.That agreement had been challenged by a New Jersey organization which claims to represent out-of-state electricity marketing companies that want to do business in Maryland. Among other things, the Mid-Atlantic Power Supply Association complained that BG&E had set its standard offer service rate so low it was hard to compete with.Yesterday's decision by Judge Albert J. Matricciani Jr. was the fourth or fifth in the utility's favor, as Mapsa seems to have the uncanny ability to keep finding new venues in which to bedevil the utility.Christian H. Poindexter, chairman, president and chief executive of Constellation Energy Group Inc., BG&E's parent holding company, said Judge Matricciani's order "lifts any lingering uncertainty from customer choice of electricity in Central Maryland."Frank O. Heintz, BG&E chief executive, pointed out that "Despite Mapsa's efforts, one of its out-of-state members already has signed more than 100 large retail electric customer accounts here in Central Maryland."To date, some 26 suppliers, brokers, and aggregators have been licensed by the PSC to competefor retail electric sales, and 7 more have applications under review, the company said.
