Vistra to Install New Gas-Fired Units at Permian Basin Power Plant

LCG, September 30, 2025--Vistra Corp. announced yesterday that it will proceed with the next phase of its capital plan to support grid reliability in Texas. In 2024, Vistra identified over $1 billion worth of potential capital additions in generation capacity within the Texas ERCOT market by 2028 if market conditions were supportive. Now, with West Texas' growing power requirements, particularly the state's expanding oil and natural gas industries, Vistra reached a final investment decision and confirms it will build two new advanced natural gas-fired power units on-site at its Permian Basin Power Plant.

Maine Natural Gas Co. Announces Hook-ups

LCG, Oct. 24, 2000--When a natural gas company hooks up customers in Maine it's news, because the state has heretofore done without the fuel. Thus it was that Maine Natural Gas Co. was able to call out state and local dignitaries yesterday when it "turned on the valves" to deliver gas to a campus of the University of Southern Maine, a new power plant in Westbrook and part of the town of Gorham, a couple of miles down the road.

The Westbrook power plant, a 540 megawatt combined cycle facility owned by Calpine Corp., is expected to be in full commercial operation by next March and will be able, the gas company statement says, to provide enough power to meet the needs of more than 500,000 homes. That is about how many homes exist in Maine.

Calpine's director of project development, Malcolm Jarvis, said "We are impressed with MNG's ability to deliver service right on time. We are proud to help MNG with its expansion efforts in Maine."

The gas company's new metering and pressure regulation station will draw gas off the joint facilities of Portland Natural Gas Transmission System and Maritimes and Northeast pipeline system.

The station was dedicated "Briggs Station" in honor of the memory of Clifford Briggs, a CianbroCorp. employee who was tragically killed by a motorist during construction of the Calpine lateral. "Cliff was the salt of the earth, we all loved him," said Pete Vigue, the contractor's president. "The dedication of this station to Cliff is a wonderful way to honor his life."

Maine Natural Gas is a subsidiary of Energy East Corp., the utility holding company formed by New York State Electric & Gas Co.
