EPA Proposes Rule Changes to Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) Requirements to Restore American Energy Dominance

LCG, April 10, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced yesterday a rule proposing several revisions to the federal regulations governing the disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCR) and the beneficial use of CCR. The EPA will be accepting comments on the rule for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, and it will also hold an online public hearing on the rule.

Michigan Co-op to Solicit Large Industrial Power Users

LCG, Nov. 21, 2000--The Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative said yesterday that its new marketing subsidiary has been licensed as an "Alternative Electric Supplier" by the Michigan Public Service Commission.

License in hand, the Wolverine Power Marketing Cooperative plans to target customers representing a load of one megawatt or more, "presently served by Consumers Energy, Detroit Edison and others," the company said.

"Wolverine Power Marketing Cooperative is in a unique position in that it is organized as a not-forprofit cooperative to sell electricity to large commercial and industrial customers," said Craig A.Borr, chief executive of the new co-op. "We believe strongly that the cooperative philosophy will be a differentiator in a commodity market and offer strong appeal to large customers."

The marketing co-op will purchase power from its parent co-op, which owns a lot of power plants and provides electricity to rural distribution cooperatives in Michigan. Borr said that will make a difference.

"Unlike most of the suppliers participating in Michigan's electric choice marketplace, WPMC is unique in that it already has bulk power supply commitments in place and backed with in-state generation to meet customer energy demands during the peak summer months," he said.

Like any co-op, Wolverine Power Marketing Cooperative will be governed by a board of directors comprised of its customers. Wolverine's customers have heretofore been small "wires" co-ops distributing power to farms and small communities in Michigan. With this new marketing plan, the co-op's board could take on a more urban cast.
