LCG, February 20, 2026--The EIA today issued an "in-brief analysis" that estimates U.S. power plant developers and operators plan to complete a record installation of 86 GW of new, utility-scale electric generating capacity that is connected to the U.S. power grid in 2026. Last year, 53 GW of new capacity was added to the grid, which was the largest capacity installation in a single year since 2002. Thus the estimate of 86 GW of new capacity in 2026 is a whopping 33 GW greater than the year prior. It should be noted that over 20 GW of the 86 GW of new capacity this year is estimated to be completed in December.

LCG, February 19, 2026--The EIA released an "in-brief analysis" today regarding the expected completion of the first, large-scale commercial enhanced geothermal system (EGS) in June 2026, and the significant growth potential for year-round, 24x7, carbon-free, renewable EGS power generation in the United States.

Calpine to Build 600 Megawatt Wisconsin Plant
LCG, Feb. 14, 2001Calpine Corp. said yesterday its Sky Gen Energy subsidiary will build a 600 megawatt, natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle merchant power plant in Wisconsin at a cost of $350 million.The new facility, to be called the RiverGen Energy Center, will supply 453 megawatts of capacity to Wisconsin Power & Light Co. under a 10-year contract. The balance of the plant's output will be sold on the regional wholesale power market.Bill Harvey, president of WP&L's parent holding company Alliant Energy Inc., said "Wisconsin is in desperate need of additional electric infrastructure. Along with Sky Gen Energy, we are taking a significant step forward to help address this critical state issue."The proposed plant will be located on property adjacent to an existing WP&L generating station near Beloit, Wisc. Construction is schedule to begin this summer and commercial operations are penciled in for the summer of 2003.Sky Gen president Michael Polsky said "By locating the RiverGen facility at WP&L's existing plant site, we can lower costs, and optimize efficiencies to build a world-class energy resource."
