Duke Energy Submits Early Site Permit Application to NRC for New Nuclear Reactors in North Carolina

LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

The NRC Issues Summary of 2025 Successes

LCG, December 29, 2025--The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) today issued a summary of its 2025 accomplishments to highlight its commitment to "enabling the safe and secure use of civilian nuclear energy and radioactive materials through efficient and reliable licensing, oversight, and regulation to benefit society and the environment."

Tucker Hart Adams, president and chief executive of Denver-based consulting firm the Adams Group, has been elected a director of Avista Labs, a subsidiary of Avista Corp. engaged in fuel cell development. She is also president of American Russian Collaborative Enterprises.

Robert F. Goff has been elected a director of Avista Labs, a subsidiary of Avista Corp. engaged in fuel cell development. He is president of R4 Energy Inc., a fuel cell industry consulting and management services company, which was formed with other members of the U.S. Fuel Cell Council.

Dennis W. Johnson has been named to the board of directors of MDU Resources Group Inc., the parent company for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. He is chairman and chief executive of TMI Systems Design Corp., TMI Transport Corp. and TMI Storage Systems Corp. all of Dickinson, N.D.

Paul Krohn has been named by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as senior resident inspector at the Point Beach nuclear power plant in Two Rivers, Wisc. He most recently worked as a resident inspector at the LaSalle nuclear plant in Marseilles, Ill., and prior to that as a resident inspector at the Prairie Island nuclear facility in Welch, Minn.

James Moore has joined Central Vermont Public Service Co. subsidiary Catamount Energy Corp. as president and has also been named senior vice president of the parent company. He previously was president and chief executive officer of American National Power Co.

Martin White has been elected chairman of MDU Resources Group Inc., replacing John Schuchart, who is retiring. White will continue as president and chief executive of the Bismarck, N.D.-based parent of Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.
