Alliant Energy Submits Plans to Iowa Utilities Commission for the Addition of 1,000 MW of Wind Capacity

LCG, July 2, 2025--Alliant Energy today announced plans to add up to 1,000 MW of wind energy generating capacity in Iowa to meet demand and ensure reliable, affordable energy for its customers. The plans are included in a filing with the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC), and the company anticipates a decision from the IUC in the first quarter of 2026.

Big Wind Farm Planned Near Amarillo, Texas

LCG, Feb. 28, 2001Southwestern Public Service Co., a unit of Xcel Energy Inc., and Cielo Wind Power announced jointly yesterday plans to build an 80 megawatt wind farm near White Deer, Texas, about 40 miles east of Amarillo.

Construction of the facility, to be called Llano Estacado Wind Ranch at White Deer is scheduled to begin in July. Cielo will be the project developer and said it will take about six months to build the facility.

The project will employ 80 Mitsubishi 1,000 kilowatt wind turbines, each of which is about 226 feet tall and weighs 160 tons. The three rotating blades have a diameter of 184 feet.

Power generated when the wind blows at White Deer will be sold to Xcel Energy under a 15-year contract.
