Duke Unit Sells Missouri Merchant Plant to NRG

DD>LCG, March 1, 2001--Duke Energy North America said this morning it has sold its 100-percent interest in a 640 megawatt power plant under construction in east-central Missouri to NRG Energy Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

Construction of the natural gas-fueled, simple-cycle peaking plant was begun in May of last year and is scheduled to begin commercial operation by this summer. The parties expect the sale to close by the end of the month, pending regulatory approval.

Located in Audrain County, Mo., the Audrain Generating Station is one of six merchant facilities Duke said it will bring on line by this summer. The other facilities are located in Arizona, Illinois, Oklahoma and two in Mississippi that together total approximately 3,400 megawatts.

The Audrain facility was designed and is being built by Duke/Fluor Daniel, the company said, while Duke Engineering & Services provided interconnection services.
