Graphic Packaging and NextEra Energy Resources Sign 250-MW Virtual Power Purchase Agreement

LCG, April 29, 2026--Graphic Packaging Holding Company today announced a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. With the VPPA agreement, NextEra Energy Resources plans to build the Selenite Springs Energy Center, a 250-MW solar energy facility in West Texas, and Graphic Packaging will be the sole buyer of the facility's renewable energy attribute certificates. Graphic Packaging, a global provider of sustainable consumer packaging, expects the agreement to cover approximately 43 percent of its 2025 electricity usage in the U.S. and Canada. The agreement will advance Graphic Packaging's commitment to source renewable electricity and reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

PJM Announces More Than 800 New Generation Projects Seek to Connect the Grid

LCG, April 29, 2026--PJM Interconnection today announced that 811 new generation projects applied to connect to the grid through the first Cycle of PJM's new reformed interconnection process, which is designed to improve the certainty, speed and discipline of generation project review. In total, the generation applications would be capable of generating 220 GW of electricity.

John Elter has been appointed vice president for research and system architecture by Plug Power Inc., a maker of fuel cells. Dr. Elter joins the company from Eastman Kodak Corp.,where he most recently served as vice president and chief technology officer in its professional division.

Barrett Hatches will join Northern Indiana Public Service Co. on April 2 as president and chief executive officer. He will also serve as chief executive of Northern Indiana Fuel and Light Co. and Kokomo Gas and Fuel Co. Hatches is currently chief executive of Enstar Natural Gas Co., based in Anchorage, Alaska.

Anthony M. Izzo has been named to succeed Barrett Hatches, who has resigned as president of Enstar Natural Gas Co. Before being named vice president for engineering and operations of Enstar in December 1999, Izzo had been city president of the Battle Creek, Mich., gas division of Entar's parent company, Semco Energy Inc.

George A. Lorch, chairman emeritus of Armstrong Holdings Inc., has been elected a director of The Williams Cos. Inc.

Rob Minter has been named vice president of Mirant Americas, a unit of Mirant Corp. and will run its Washington, D.C., office, where he will head up the company's lobbying effort with legislators and regulators. He previously worked as a director of governmental affairs and public affairs for the former Southern Energy in Atlanta and New York.

James M. Seif, who has headed Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection for six years, has been named vice president for corporate services of PPL Corp., effective April 2.

Charlie Thurston, vice president for governmental affairs, will retire from Nicor Inc. effective April 1. Russ Strobel, senior vice president and general counsel, will assume thelegislative and regulatory affairs responsibilities.

Duke/Fluor Daniel Announces Four Key Appointments
Duke Energy Corp. said this week that its power plant contracting joint venture with Fluor Corp., Duke/Fluor Daniel, had made four executive appointments within the company.

  • Ron Barnes was named senior vice president of projects, with responsibility for directing thecompany's worldwide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects. He will haveresponsibility for EPC projects for Duke Energy.

  • Abe Fatemizadeh was named senior vice president of projects, with responsibility for directing the company's worldwide engineering, procurement and construction projects. He will have responsibility for EPC projects for all other clients.

  • Chris Tye was named senior vice president of operations, replacing Barnes. Tye will be responsible for the company's global operations, including its four principal offices in Charlotte, N.C.; Houston, Texas; Aliso Viejo, Calif.; and Camberly, England.

  • Dave Dunning was named senior vice president of marketing and sales, replacing Tye. Dunning will direct the company's global sales and marketing activities, including both its EPC business and its operating plant services, which encompasses plant operations and maintenance, capital improvements and other services.
