Wärtsilä to Supply the Engineering and Equipment to East Kentucky Power Cooperative for 217-MW Power Plant

LCG, August 27, 2025--Wärtsilä Energy announced yesterday an agreement with East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) to supply the engineering and equipment for a 217-MW power plant to be constructed in Liberty, Kentucky. The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery in mid-2027, and the plant is expected to be commissioned in early 2028.

The MOU establishes a shared commitment to support advanced nuclear technologies to build Utah’s energy future and to prioritize reliability, economic growth and energy abundance.

Warren Jobe a senior vice president of The Southern Co., said he will retire effective June 1. Jobe said it is time to move on for several reasons: He just turned 60, he has been with the company exactly half his life, the company is in excellent shape and on track for the April 2 spin off of Mirant, and he is in good health.

Kevern Joyce will resign effective April 8 as chairman, president and chief executive of Texas-New Mexico Power Co. He will be replaced by Jack V. Chambers Jr., a 22-year veteran of the utility who is currently senior vice president and chief operations officer.

Harold Kvisle has been appointed president and chief executive of TransCanada Pipelines Ltd., effective May 1. He is currently executive vice president of TransCanada's trading and business development function.

David R. Lewis has been promoted to vice president for finance by Calpine Corp. He most recently was regional director of finance in Calpine's eastern regional office in Boston.

Clarence Ray has been named president of Duke Energy Generation Services, a new company established to provide operations and maintenance services for Duke Energy Corp.'s rapidly growing fleet of wholesale merchant power plants in North America. He has been president and chief executive of Duke/Fluor Daniel since 1993.

Raymond L. Wenderlich has been named a vice president of Constellation Nuclear LLC, a subsidiary of Constellation Energy Group and affiliate of Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. During six years of service in the U.S. Navy, Wenderlich was electrical officer and reactor controls officer on the USS Mississippi, a submarine, and nuclear training officer on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.

Deaths

Sidney Siegel, a pioneer in developing nuclear power for peaceful uses, died March 16 of cancer. He was 89. A founding member of the American Nuclear Society, Siegel frequently wrote and lectured about the advantages of producing electricity with nuclear energy. Nuclear power was cleaner, cheaper and safer than coal, he said.

Mirant Announces Changes in Board

Mirant Corp. has announced the nine members of its board of directors. Four new members will join five existing members of the board on April 3, 2001, pending board approval. The company anticipates receiving the resignation of current directors H. Allen Franklin, Elmer B. Harris and William L. Westbrook in conjunction with its planned spin off from Southern Company on April 2.

  • A.D. Correll is chairman, chief executive and president of Georgia-Pacific Corp. He is a director of Georgia-Pacific, Norfolk Southern Corp. and SunTrust Banks Inc.

  • A. W. Dahlberg is chairman of the board of Mirant, appointed last August. He ischairman of The Southern Co. until next month and recently stepped down as chief executive after six years. He is a director of Equifax Inc., Protective Life Corp., Sun Trust Banks Inc. and serves on the board of directors of The Nature Conservancy.

  • Stuart E. Eizenstat is a partner of Covington & Burling where he heads the law firm's international practice. He served as Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of the Treasury from July 2000 to January of this year. He served as Under Secretary of Economics, Business and Agricultural Affairs of the United States Department of State from 1997 to July 1999 and Under Secretary for International Trade of the United States Department of Commerce from 1996 to 1997. He served as United States Ambassador to the European Union from 1993 to 1996 and was President Carter's chief domestic policy advisor from 1977 to 1981. He was a director of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation from 1996 to 2001.

  • S. Marce Fuller is president and chief executive officer of Mirant, appointed July 1999. From Sept. 1997 to July 1999 she was president and chief executive officer of Mirant Americas Energy Marketing. She is a director of Curtiss-Wright Corp. and serves on the Atlanta International School board of trustees.

  • Carlos Ghosn is president and chief operating officer of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. He was executive vice president in charge of general management of Renault SA from Dec. 1996 to June 1999, when he was appointed to his current position. He was chairman, president and chief executive officer ofMichelin North America from 1990 to 1996.

  • William M. Hjerpe is a private investor. He was president of Honeywell Europe, Middle East and Africa from March 1997 to Oct. 1999 and vice president and chief financial officer of Honeywell Inc.from Sept. 1994 to March 1997.

  • David J. Lesar is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Halliburton Co. He was president and chief operating officer from June 1997 to Aug. 2000, when he was appointed to his current position. He is a director of Lyondell Chemical Co.

  • James F. McDonald is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Scientific-Atlanta Inc. He is a director of Scientific-Atlanta, Burlington Resources Inc. and National Data Corp.

  • Ray M. Robinson is president of AT&T's Southern Region. He is a director of Avnet Inc., National Services Industries Inc., Citizens Trust Bank, Woodruff Arts Center and a trustee ofSpelman College.
