NuScale Power Achieves Standard Design Approval from NRC for 77 MW SMR

LCG, May 30, 2025--NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale), a leading provider of advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, yesterday announced that it has received design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its uprated 77 MW power modules. NuScale states that it remains the only SMR technology company with design approval from the NRC, and the company remains on track for deployment by 2030, with 50- and 77-MW SMR options.

EIA Presents Analysis of California's Solar and Wind Power Curtailment Challenges

LCG, May 29, 2025--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an analysis yesterday showing that the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the grid operator for most of the state, is increasing its curtailment of the rapidly growing solar- and wind-powered generation facilities in order to balance electricity supply and demand, which is necessary to maintain a stable electric system.

Michael D. Capellas, chairman and chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp., has been elected a director of Dynegy Inc.

Mark S. Dodson has been named president and chief operating officer of Northwest natural Gas Co.. He has been senior vice president for public affairs and general counsel since 1997.

Rance Hall has been named chief financial officer for Duke Energy Generation Services, the wholesale merchant power plant business of Duke Energy Corp. He joins DEGS from Duke/Fluor Daniel, a joint venture between Duke and Fluor Corp., where he was chief financial officer and vice president for finance and administration.

Eduardo Noriega has been appointed manager of the northeast Georgia service area of Atlanta Gas Light Co. A native of Argentina who has been living in the United States since 1983, Noriega has more than a decade of experience in the natural gas industry including a position in management with Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania in addition to serving as a design engineer for the company.

H. John Riley Jr., chairman, president and chief executive of Cooper Industries, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of electrical products, tools and hardware, has been elected a director of Dynegy Inc.

Andrew B. Stroud Jr. has joined Kansas City Power & Light Co. as vicepresident for human resources. He previously occupied the same position with Evenflo Co. in Vandalia, Ohio.

Gordon van Welie has been appointed president and chief executive of ISO New England Inc., effective June 1. He replaces acting chief executive William W. Berry, who remains chairman.

Dominion Resources Announces Three Nuclear Changes
Dominion Resources Inc. unit Dominion Energy announced three changes within its nuclear organization in Virginia and Connecticut. All changes are effective June 1.

  • Raymond P. Necci, vice president for nuclear technical services at Millstone Power Station in Waterford, Conn., will become vice president for nuclear operations.

  • J. Alan Price will succeed Necci as vice president for nuclear technical services at Millstone. He is presently director of nuclear engineering for Dominion Energy's Virginia nuclear power stations, North Anna and Surry.

  • Eugene S. Grecheck vice president for nuclear operations at Millstone, will become vicepresident for nuclear support services in Richmond, Va.
