		| LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

Long Island Power Authority Plans 10 Small Peakers
LCG, Oct. 16, 2001--The Long Island Power Authority said yesterday it plans to build 10 small electric "peaking" power plants in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, N.Y., that will add 408 megawatts of capacity by next summer. The program will be similar to that of the New York Power Authority which, despite minor local opposition, built 10 small peakers in New York City and one on Long Island to get the Big Apple through this year's summer demand."We have just barely enough power to meet our summer forecast right now," LIPA spokesman Michael Lowndes said, adding "We've been saying for more than a year that we need more power plants on Long Island."Lowndes said the combustion turbines -- the outgrowth of recent jet engine research -- will be in addition to other LIPA projects. Projects are underway for development of a 44 megawatt facility in Far Rockaway, a 79 megawatt plant in Glenwood Landing and another 79 megawatt plant in Shoreham, all to be on-line by next summer.
