Christopher Bakken III has been named senior vice president responsiblefor nuclear generation by American Electric Power Co. Inc. He joined AEP in April 1999 as site vice president at the Cook Nuclear Plant, having previously held a variety of positions at Public Service Electric & Gas Co.'s Salem Generating Station and Duquesne Light Co.'s Beaver Valley Nuclear Station.

Edward J. Bernica has been named president and chief executive of Energy West Inc.,a gas utility and energy sales company based in Great Falls, Mont. He replaces Larry Geske, who has retired. Bernica most recently was chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

Richard Bulman, chief executive of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (Mappcor), has announced that he plans to retire shortly after the closing of a sale of certain Mappcor assets to the Midwest Independent System Operator.

Norman Chambers has been named to the newly created position of chief operating officer by microturbine manufacturer Capstone Turbine Corp. He joins Capstone from Petrocosm, an e-commerce web portal start-up that had sought to create an online marketplace forbusinesses in the oil and gas industries.

Sebastian Coppola, senior vice president and chief financial officer of natural gas distributor Semco Energy Inc. since January 1999, has left the company. Semco said a search will be undertaken to find a replacement, and in the interim the position will be occupied by 23-year Semco veteran Steven Warsinske, who is vice president and controller.

Samuel Dallas, vice president for finance of natural gas distributor Semco Energy Inc. since May of 1999, has left the company. No replacement has been announced.

William Gipson has been promoted to the newly created post of chief operating officer by electric service provider Empire District Electric Co. He is currently executive vice president of the company.

William J. Head has been named chief operating officer of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (Mappcor). He joined the organization in 1980 as associate stability engineer.

Ted J. Kleisner, president and managing director of The Greenbrier and president of The Greenbrier Resort Management Co., has been elected a director of Allegheny Energy Inc.

Charles D. McCrary has been elected chief executive officer of Alabama Power Co., succeeding Elmer Harris, who will remain chairman of the board until his retirement from the company inJanuary. McCrary, president of Alabama Power since April, is a 28-year veteran of parent holding company The Southern Co.

Jeff McMahon, who from 1998 to 2000 was treasurer of Enron Corp., has been named chief financial officer, replacing Andrew Fastow, who has been placed on leave of absence from the company in an effort to restore confidence in the investment community.

Peter J. Pintar has been named director of investor relations by DTE Energy Co. and will be responsible for communicating the company's financial and operating performance to investors and security analysts. He will also retain his current role as head of the corporate venturing group, responsible for energy technology investments and new ventures.

Mayo Shattuck III, a director of Constellation Energy Group, has been named president and chief executive of the firm, succeeding Christian Poindexter as chief executive. Shattuck recently resigned from Deutsche Bank where he was chairman of Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown and CEO of the Americas for the bank's private client and asset management group. Poindexter will remain chairman.

Daniel P. Skaar will become general manager and chief executive of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (Mappcor) following the retirement of current chief executive Richard Bulman. Skaar joined the organization in 1999 as chief financial officer.
