LCG, March 18, 2025--RWE and Meta today announced a new power purchase agreement (PPA) for offtake from RWE's 200-MW Waterloo Solar Project, which is located in Bastrop County, Texas. Under the agreement, Meta will purchase 100% of the output from the solar facility, which will support Meta's goal of matching its electricity needs with 100 percent clean energy. The project is scheduled to commence onsite construction in late 2025.

LCG, March 14, 2025--The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved an expansion of San Diego Gas & Electric's (SDG&E) Westside Canal Battery Energy Storage facility. The expansion project is located in California's Imperial Valley and will add 100 MW of energy storage capacity to the existing 131 MW facility. The new capacity is expected to be fully operational by June 2025. Upon completion, the Westside Canal facility, with a total capacity of 231 MW, will be the largest storage asset in SDG&E's utility-owned battery storage portfolio.

Texas' Top PUC Official, Ex-Exec at Enron, Resigns
LCG, Jan. 18, 2002--Questions concerning the circumstances of Max Yzaguirre's appointment as chairman of the Texas Public Utilities Commission led to his resignation Thursday.Yzaguirre was appointed to the PUC post by Texas Gov. Rick Perry in June. PUC spokesman Terry Hadley said that Yzaguirre had informed his staff that his resignation is effective as of Friday. The former executive at Enron had moved deregulation of Texas' electricity market forward, based upon the passage in 1999 of deregulation legislation.Gov. Perry will be running for a full term as governor, having taken office when now-President Bush left for Washington. Criticism has risen over the donation of $25,000 to Perry's campaign by Enron chairman Ken Lay the day following Yzaguirre's appointment. The governor said that the timing of the two events was "totally coincidental."In his original application to head the PUC, Yzaguirre noted his experience as head of Enron's Mexico operations. During Enron's increasing financial difficulties last year, he included other appointments with various other Enron affiliates in his record, which he said he had not remembered earlier.Tony Sanchez, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, said he was not sure that the investigation into the financial impact of Enron's collapse upon Texas would not be affected by Enron executives' contributions of $220,000 to Perry's campaigns dating to 1994.Spokeswoman for the governor, Kathy Walt, said "the governor maintains that Max Yzaguirre is qualified and was qualified at the time of his appointment to serve on the commmision," and that "he has been a fair and balanced voice.&quopt;
