China Builds Trash-burning Power Plant

LCG, May 15, 2002-China's trash-burning power plant plans have been delayed two years, but a loan from Spain may bring about its construction.

Chinese State Development Planning Commission approved the 680 million yuan ($82.2 million) Beijing project in 2000, but further action has been postponed because of financial and environmental concerns.

Spain has reportedly agreed to loan $45 million for construction, and the plant is hoped to be on line by the 2008 Olymic games, which will be held in Beijing.

Golden State Group Corp. holds the controlling stake in the joint venture.
