Kern River Pipeline Expansion Approved

LCG, July 17, 2002-Kern River Gas Transmission Company has received final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to go ahead on a $1.2 billion gas pipeline expansion project.

The project will almost double Kern River's capacity from the Rocky Mountains into California, raising capacity by 885 million cubic feet per day and adding more than 700 miles of pipeline, in addition to increasing capacity at pre-existing compressor stations and adding three new compressor stations.

The pipeline will bring fuel directly to new power plants in the West, serving some 6,700 MW capacity.

Kern River is a subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company.
