LCG, March 205, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) today announced it will soon be the first regional transmission organization (RTO) in the nation to provide full services in both the Eastern and Western Interconnections of the U.S. power grid. On March 20, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) unanimously approved Southwest Power Pool’s amended tariff that includes provisions that enable Western members to join the RTO. The expansion of the SPP RTO is scheduled to go live April 1, 2026.

Calpine Brings 550-MW Texas Plant On Line
LCG, October 17, 2002-The Corpus Christi Energy Center began operations, according to an Calpine announcement today.Corpus Christi is a gas-fired facility with two combustion turbines and one steam turbine. The plant, located in Corpus Christi, Texas, has a capacity of 550 megawatts and can produce steam at a rate of over 1.4 million pounds per hour.The plant is already under contract for its steam; 750,000 pounds per hour of steam will be sold to Citgo Refining Company, and 140,000 pounds per hour will be sold to Elementis Chromium.70 megawatts of the plant's capacity will go to Citgo Refining as well, and the remaining capacity will be available on the wholesale electricity market.Calpine is headquartered in San Jose, California, and operates 12,100 megawatts of capacity.
