LCG, January 2, 2003-Williams Cos. has settled most of the lawsuits filed against it by California. Many lawsuits were filed against energy generating companies like Williams after California's energy crisis in 2000/2001 forced the state's utilities into expensive long-term power contracts. As part of the settlement, Williams will be free of California's claims regarding possible overpriced electricity. Some private class-action plaintiffs have also consented to the settlement.California, in exchange, will see a reduction in its $4.3 billion energy deal with Williams.
