Bruce Power Unit Restarts
LCG, Oct. 13, 2003--The Ontario electrical network will be supplied with an additional 750 megawatts this week, following the restart of Bruce Power's nuclear Bruce A unit 4.Unit 4 is being tested before reaching 50 percent capacity, according to Steve Cannon, a spokesman for Bruce Power. Only once the shutdown mechanisms have been checked will the unit reconnect to the network. Unit 3 is expected to go through a similar restart in November. The units were to go online in June, but systems and wiring tests, as well as the installation of an additional control room and backup power generation were not completed in time to make it possible. Although the units being restarted were not available, some additional output came from Bruce B's four units, which have a combined capacity of 3,200 megawatts.
