Progress Energy Seeks Increase for Fuel Costs
LCG, June 9, 2003--While the base rates paid by North Carolina customers of Progress Energy Carolinas for electricity have remained stable for roughly a decade, the utility is seeking a rate increase based on its prior and future fuel costs. The utility is seeking a 2.2 percent increase in overall revenues, or an increase of $53.6 million overall, based in part on the difference between what has been taken in and what it paid through March 31. As a pass-through charge, this component of the typical customer's electric bill is considered separately from the base rate. According to Progress, the typical customer would pay $1.53 more per month.
