Allegheny Energy Unit Agrees to Revised CA Contract
LCG, June 10, 2003--Allegheny Energy Supply, a unit of Allegheny Energy, has reached an agreement with the California Department of Water Resources to sell power under contract at lower rates, while the agency dropped a lawsuit it had filed in January. The volume of power to be purchased was revised downward, and the price for power in off-peak hours starting in 2004 was lowered. The new prices will bring the cost of the contract to approximately $3.4 billion, which by Gov. Gray Davis' calculations is $836 million less than it had been previously. The price for power in the contract averages $59.83/MWh, whereas it had been $61/MWh. Allegheny, which has its headquarters in Hagerstown, Md., plans to sell the revised contract.
