LCG, May 8, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Board of Directors approved SPP’s proposed Expedited Resource Adequacy Study (ERAS) at its May 6 meeting. SPP developed the new ERAS in collaboration with its stakeholders in response to the growing need to add new generating resources before the region’s generating capacity is outpaced by its electricity demands. ERAS is intended to be a one-time, expedited study process designed to significantly accelerate the addition of new power generation facilities to the grid and address concerns about the near term ability to maintain the affordable and reliable electric service that consumers expect.

LCG, May 7, 2025--EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) announced yesterday the inauguration of its Scarlet II Solar Energy Park (Scarlet II) in Fresno County, California. This phase of the solar plus energy storage project includes 200 MW of solar capacity, plus a co-located 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The initial phase of the project, Scarlet I, which provides 200 MW of solar and 40 MW/160 MWh of BESS, achieved commercial operations in July 2024.

New Wind Projects Commence Operations
LCG, June 16, 2004--New wind turbines continue to be connected to the electricity grid across North America. Today, FPL Energy LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group, and PPM Energy, Inc., ScottishPower's US energy business, hosted guests at the official commencement of operations for FPL Energys Wyoming Wind Energy Center in Uinta County, Wyoming. The project includes 80 turbines, with a project capacity of 144 MW. All of the output will be purchased by PPM Energy under a long-term contract.Last week, the Creststreet Power & Income Fund LP announced that the first phase of construction is near completion and electrical power production from seven wind turbines has commenced at both its Mount Copper Project near Murdochville, Quebec and its Pubnico Point Project near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The second phase of construction, which includes bringing on-line an additional 40 turbines, is scheduled for completion in January 2005. When complete, the Mount Copper Project will have a 54 MW capacity, with Hydro Quebec purchasing the energy under a long-term contract. The capacity of Pubnico Point Project will be 30.6 MW, with production to be sold to Nova Scotia Power, Inc. under a long-term contract. In California, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) announced last week that it has added seven wind turbines, totaling 5 MW, to its Solano Wind Project in the Delta, south of Sacramento. SMUD has been generating electricity from this site since 1994.
