LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

Palomar Energy Project Breaks Ground
LCG, July 23, 2004--With California's electricity demand setting new peak records, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the Palomar Energy Project, a 550-megawatt power plant in Escondido, California. The plant is being built by Palomar Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy Resources. SDG&E, a regulated utility and subsidiary of Sempra Energy, will purchase and operate the plant upon completion, which is scheduled for mid-2006.The natural gas-fired, combined cycle plant includes two combustion turbine-generators equipped with dry low combustors and evaporative inlet air coolers, two heat recovery steam generators equipped with duct burners, a steam turbine-generator and associated auxiliary systems and equipment. The project includes a new 230 kV switchyard connecting with an existing SDG&E electric transmission line located immediately adjacent to the project site.
