PJM Operations Now Include AEP and DP&L
LCG, October 5, 2004--On October 1, the PJM interconnection began managing the transmission lines of AEP Service Corporation and Dayton Power and Light Company. PJM now operates an integrated grid with nearly 50,000 miles of transmission lines in twelve states that connects to nearly 1,000 generators serving a peak load approaching 108,000 MW. Although PJM will control the transmission system, no ownership changes will occur.Further expansion of the PJM system is anticipated with the integration of Dominion's Virginia Power. Virginia's Restructuring Act requires Virginia Power to join an RTO by January 1, 2005, and Virginia Power has submitted an application to do so. Settlement talks are underway that may make the hearing at the Virginia State Corporation Commission, scheduled to begin on October 12, unnecessary.
