LCG, May 18, 2026--The U.S. Secretary of Energy today issued an emergency order to address critical grid reliability issues in the Midwest anticipated this summer. The order is in effect beginning on May 19, 2026, through August 16, 2026. The emergency order directs the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), in coordination with Consumers Energy, to ensure that the J.H. Campbell coal-fired power plant (Campbell Plant) in West Olive, Michigan shall take all steps necessary to remain available to operate and to minimize costs for the region.

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

Contruction of Palomar Energy Project Approaches Midway Point
LCG, May 5, 2005--Construction on the Palomar Energy Project, a 550-MW power plant located in Escondido, California, is now about 45 percent complete. The gas-fired plant is expected to be up and running in the summer of 2006.Palomar Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy Resources, is building the plant. SDG&E, a regulated utility and subsidiary of Sempra Energy, will purchase and operate the plant upon completion.The natural gas-fired, combined cycle plant includes two combustion turbine-generators equipped with dry low combustors and evaporative inlet air coolers, two heat recovery steam generators equipped with duct burners, a steam turbine-generator and associated auxiliary systems and equipment. The city's sewage treatment plant will supply all of the 3 million gallons per day of reclaimed water used by the generating station. The project includes a new 230 kV switchyard connecting with an existing SDG&E electric transmission line located immediately adjacent to the project site.
