LCG, January 8, 2026--Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) announced today that it has selected Siemens Energy to provide steam turbine generator sets for B&W’s groundbreaking project to install and deliver one GW of power for an Applied Digital AI Factory. B&W and Siemens have entered into an agreement for a limited notice to proceed to secure the turbine sets, which will enable B&W to deliver power for the project by the end of 2028. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $2 billion. The full contract release is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Construction to Start at Calpine's Advanced Power Plant
LCG, August 3, 2005--Calpine Corporation (Calpine) announced yesterday its plans to start construction this month on the Inland Empire Energy Center, an 800-MW, joint project with GE Energy (GE). The site for the Inland Empire Energy Center, which will employ GE's latest technology, is in the unincorporated community of Romoland in Riverside County, California. The California Energy Commission (CEC) granted the license in June, and the project is scheduled to commence operations by the summer of 2008.Calpine previously received a license in 2003 from the CEC to construct a 670-MW plant at the site. In November 2004, Calpine announced that GE had signed a letter of intent with Calpine and planned to invest over $500 million in a new station using the H System technology, GE's newest technology for natural gas-fired, combined-cycle stations; however, the site was not specified. After the CEC granted the license in June for the Inland Empire Energy Center, GE acquired the site and associated development rights for the project from Calpine. GE will finance, own and operate the energy center, and Calpine will manage plant construction, market plant generation and manage fuel requirements under a long-term agreement. Calpine will purchase the facility from GE and become sole owner and operator after an extended period, according to Calpine. The project will be the first site in North America to use GE's new, H System technology, which is targeted to achieve a thermal efficiency of 60 percent. The first GE H System unit was installed in Baglan Bay, Wales and began operation in September 2003. The new station will use two GE 107H combined-cycle systems that provide for greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions, including greenhouse emissions. Like other combined-cycle designs, the H System uses gas turbine exhausts to generate steam that drives another turbine for additional power generation. However, the H System uses steam rather than air to cool the turbines, which allows the system to operate at higher temperatures and results in greater efficiency, using about 3 percent less fuel. With natural gas price levels nearly three times greater than the level of a few years ago, the increased fuel efficiency will improve the economics of gas-fired stations, with reduced emissions another valuable benefit.
