Vistra to Install New Gas-Fired Units at Permian Basin Power Plant

LCG, September 30, 2025--Vistra Corp. announced yesterday that it will proceed with the next phase of its capital plan to support grid reliability in Texas. In 2024, Vistra identified over $1 billion worth of potential capital additions in generation capacity within the Texas ERCOT market by 2028 if market conditions were supportive. Calpine Resurrects Plans to Build Generating Station in Bay Area

LCG, October 11, 2005--Calpine Corporation (Calpine) is resurrecting its plans to develop a 600-MW, electric generating station near Hayward, California. The natural gas-fired project could be under construction by the summer 2007.

The energy crisis in California and Calpine's subsequent financial difficulties had placed the plant on the back-burner. Today, the landscape of California's energy market is being reshaped by growing demands for electricity and aging power plants.

To advance the project, known as the Russell City Energy Center, Calpine wants to trade land with the City of Hayward to gain property adjacent to the city's wastewater treatment plant that could supply treated waste-water for cooling. The proposed land trade is scheduled for review by the Hayward City Council this evening.

Calpine has a number of additional hurdles, such as financing and amending its 2002-approved license from the California Energy Commission (CEC).
