LCG, April 17, 2025--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and its Regional Entities today issued a joint staff report concluding that the nation’s Bulk-Power System (BPS) "performed well during successive cold weather events in January 2025, without major issues in either the natural gas or electric systems."

LCG, April 15, 2025--Matrix Renewables announced today the successful commissioning of the Pleasant Valley Solar 1 power generation facility in Ada County, Idaho. The 200-MWac solar facility includes a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that was secured through negotiation with Meta and Idaho Power. Matrix Renewables states the facility is the largest operational solar facility in Idaho Power's system. Sundt Renewables, the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services provider, completed construction of the project on March 2nd.

Progress Energy Carolinas Announces Energy Efficiency Goals
LCG, June 1, 2007--Progress Energy Carolinas Wednesday announced its goal to displace 2,000 MW of electric generation through demand-side management and energy-efficiency programs. To achieve the goal, the company plans to double the approximate 1,000 MW currently being saved by existing programs. The goal is driven by the company's desire to meet customer growth in an environmentally sound manner, including global climate issues.
Over the next two years, Progress Energy plans to rapidly implement energy-efficiency programs and evaluate their effectiveness to determine the potential for further reductions, which could defer the need to build new generation facilities. Progress Energy also announced a commitment that it will not propose any new coal plants during this two-year evaluation period. Furthermore, Progress Energy notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that if the company proceeds with plans to install a new nuclear reactor at the Harris site (a decision that has not yet been made), the new plant would be online in 2018 or beyond, at least two years later than initial energy demand forecasts had indicated.
According to Progress Energy, a key strategy for success is customer interest and participation, which the company plans to develop by setting a positive example through changes at its own offices and facilities, and by developing and implementing solutions with commercial, industrial and government customers.
New demand-side management and energy-efficiency programs to be implemented this year include: the installation of a new generation of programmable thermostats and water heater control devices to help regulate on-peak energy use in homes and businesses; increased residential HVAC maintenance, as well as duct testing and repair; large-scale replacement of incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs; increased energy education and awareness, including in-home energy assessments and the use of new digital displays that provide real-time energy use and cost information for homeowners; and research and investments in new, clean fuel-cell technology for home and business electrical generation.
