LCG, December 12, 2025--Today, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) announced strategic organizational changes designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen grid reliability, and support the unprecedented growth in the demand for electricity across Texas. To meet these objectives, ERCOT created two new organizations: Interconnection and Grid Analysis, and Enterprise Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The two organizations will formally launch in January 2026.

LCG, December 8, 2025--Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric) and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NextEra) today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the joint development of the River Run Energy Center, a new combined-cycle natural gas-fueled generation facility in Basin Electric's North Dakota service territory. The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of approximately 1,450 MW.

PSC of Wisconsin Rejects Alliant's Proposed Coal Plant
LCG, November 12, 2008--The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin yesterday unanimously rejected the proposal from Wisconsin Power and Light (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corp., to construct a 300-MW, coal-fired unit at either the Nelson Dewey Generating Station facility in Cassville or the Columbia Energy Center in Portage, Wisconsin.
WPL submitted an application to the PSC for permission to build the 300-MW facility in early 2007, and the Commission determined the application to be complete on December 19, 2007. The estimated cost of the new unit rose from $777 million to nearly $1.3 billion, and the PSC concluded that the project was too costly relative to alternatives. A Commissioner stated, "The record clearly demonstrates that there are alternatives that are more economically and environmentally sound."
Uncertainties regarding carbon legislation also played a role. Commission Chairperson Eric Callisto stated, "We are at a unique juncture in this country, and in Wisconsin, and decisions regarding new sources of electric generation need to account for the likely future costs of complying with constraints on carbon emissions."
