LCG, July 10, 2025--The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) accepted a construction permit application for review from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to build one of the nation’s first small modular reactors (SMR). TVA submitted its application in late May to use GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design and to install the advanced nuclear plant at its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. TVA's application is the first in the U.S. that uses GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design.

SunPower Announces New Solar PV Manufacturing Facility in California
LCG, April 28, 2010--SunPower Corp. announced late last week that it has partnered with Flextronics to begin manufacturing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels by the end of 2010 at a facility near San Jose, California.
The new facility is supported by SunPower's three-year agreement with the US Department of Energy (DOE) under the Solar Energy Technologies Program, which allows for SunPower to receive up to $24 million of federal funding to improve the design and manufacture of solar PV systems. SunPower also plans to apply a federal manufacturing tax credit from federal stimulus dollars to support its investment in the manufacturing equipment.
The facility is expected to annually produce 75 MW of solar panels that can be easily shipped to growing, nearby markets. Last month, Southern California Edison (SCE) awarded a contract to SunPower to provide solar PV systems for up to 200 MW of capacity in order to meet the solar capacity needed for the utility?s solar PV program.
SCE plans to construct, own and operate 250 MW of solar generating capacity over the next five years. The strategy is to install solar PV systems as large as 2 MW of electric generating capacity on leased, warehouse rooftops and to connect the systems into the local distribution grid.
SCE will purchase the non-penetrating, SunPower T5 Solar Roof Tile system. According to SunPower, the T5 Roof Tile system integrates a frame and mounting system with SunPower's high-performance, 96-cell solar panels, including the recently announced SunPower 315 Solar Panel.
