LCG, September 30, 2025--Vistra Corp. announced yesterday that it will proceed with the next phase of its capital plan to support grid reliability in Texas. In 2024, Vistra identified over $1 billion worth of potential capital additions in generation capacity within the Texas ERCOT market by 2028 if market conditions were supportive. Now, with West Texas' growing power requirements, particularly the state's expanding oil and natural gas industries, Vistra reached a final investment decision and confirms it will build two new advanced natural gas-fired power units on-site at its Permian Basin Power Plant.

Alstom and LM Wind Power Pursue Joint Development of Offshore Wind Turbines
LCG, February 9, 2011--Alstom and LM Wind Power this week announced plans to jointly develop the world's longest wind turbine blades for offshore wind turbines. LM Wind Power's new blade will be designed for use with Alstom's new, 6-MW offshore wind turbine, with the goal being to reduce the cost of offshore wind power.
The prototype blades will be manufactured with relatively lighter glass fiber and polyester materials at LM Wind Power's Danish factory in Lunderskov, with plans for installation at Alstom prototype sites in Europe next winter. According to LM Wind Power, the longest blade currently in serial production is LM Wind Power's LM 61.5P blade, with a rotor diameter of 126 meters.
Alstom will develop two prototype turbines, with the first design installed in 2011 and the second in 2012. A pre-series model will be installed in 2013, with commercial series production scheduled to commence in 2014. The turbine will employ a permanent magnet direct drive system in which the hub of the turbine rotor is directly connected to the generator, thereby eliminating the use of a mechanical gearbox coupled to the generator. The design objective is a compact, lightweight machine with lower service costs and improved operating efficiency. Offshore wind development is growing at a rapid pace in Europe. Last month, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) released information that a total of 883 MW of new capacity was installed in 2010 at nine wind farms in five countries, thereby increasing the European offshore total to 2,964 MW. The United Kingdom leads Europe, with a total installed offshore wind capacity of 1,341 MW, or nearly half of the offshore capacity. EWEA's Chief Executive stated, "With over 50% percent market growth, 2010 sets a new record for European offshore wind energy. Meanwhile, the 29 new offshore turbine models announced during 2010 show a growing commitment to the offshore wind energy sector by large, global industrial players, offering a real boost for Europe?s economy, its efforts to tackle climate change, create green jobs and exports while reducing our dependence on imported fuel."
