TVA Adds to Its Wind Farm Portfolio
LCG, January 25, 2012--The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced last Friday that it agreed to purchase power from four wind farms in Kansas, Illinois and Iowa that have a combined capacity of 535 MW. Today, TVA has activated a wind energy portfolio totaling 950 MW, including five operating wind farms in the Midwest with a combined 542 wind turbines.
The new wind farms that began delivery to TVA in January are: ENEL Green Power's 201-MW Caney River wind farm in Elk County, Kansas; NextEra Energy Resources' 150-MW White Oak Energy Center in McLean County, Illinois; EDP Renewables North America's 101-MW Lost Lakes wind farm in Dickinson County, Iowa; and an additional 83-MW from EDP Renewables' Pioneer Prairie site in Howard and Mitchell counties, Iowa, which commenced production for TVA in 2010.
TVA senior vice president for Commercial Operations and Pricing stated, "Delivery of power from these contracts and others expected to be activated in the near future will enable TVA to continue advancing towards its vision to become one of the nation's leaders in clean energy by 2020."
TVA stated that all of its wind contracts are subject to satisfying applicable environmental requirements and securing firm transmission paths.
