NextEra Energy and Google Collaborate on Accelerating Nuclear Power Deployment

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

DONG Energy Announces 6-MW Offshore Wind Turbines Installed at Gunfleet Sands Wind Farm

LCG, September 12, 2013--DONG Energy has installed two, 6-MW wind turbines at the company's Gunfleet Sands site that is located approximately 8.5 kilometers south east off the Essex coast in the UK. The offshore demonstration project will test the Siemens direct drive wind turbines, which include a 120-meter rotor diameter. Increasing the generating capacity of wind turbines is expected to lower the cost of power from offshore wind farms.

DONG Energy Wind Power's UK country manager stated, "The inauguration of this demonstration project marks an important milestone for DONG Energy in the UK. We are the market leader for a reason; we are using the latest technology to push the boundaries of the industry forward and we continue to remain committed to playing a central role in ensuring the offshore wind industry in this country achieves its full potential."

The new turbines were installed adjacent to Dong Energy's existing Gunfleet Sands 1 and 2 wind farm.

In July of last year, DONG Energy announced that they executed an agreement with Siemens Energy regarding the supply and servicing of 300 offshore wind turbines - each with the 6-MW generating capacity. DONG Energy also announced plans to install the turbines at offshore wind farms in the UK from 2014 through 2017, and that Siemens Energy will design, manufacture, supply, install and service the turbines.
