LCG, January 15, 2015-MidAmerican Energy recently completed three wind farms in Iowa, adding over 500 MW of electric generating capacity. The wind farms are part of the 1,050-MW Wind VIII development project, which MidAmerican plans to complete in 2015. The project was announced in May 2013, with an estimated cost of $1.9 billion and planned completion by the end of 2015.

The Wind VIII project includes five wind farms that will use Siemens' 2.3-MW wind turbines. The wind farms placed into service last year are: the 251-MW Lundgren Wind Farm, the 119.6-MW Macksburg Wind Farm, and the 140.8-MW Wellsburg Wind Farm.

In 2013, a fourth wind farm expansion, the Vienna II project, was completed that added 43.7 MW to the Vienna Wind Farm.

The Highland Wind Farm, which is scheduled for completion this year, will add another 495 MW of capacity. In total, the Wind VIII project includes 448 wind turbines, with a combined generating capacity of 1,050 MW.
