UPLAN Users United in San Francisco
San Francisco, March 18, 2008 -- In conjunction with the upcoming release of UPLAN-Altos, LCG Consulting hosted a users conference last week in San Francisco, California. The highly anticipated enhancements of the UPLAN software, which provides comprehensive planning facilities for analyzing many new issues facing electricity market participants, brought out a large number of attendees representing nearly 20 organizations. The conference offered all users, both old hands and beginners, a unique opportunity for networking and exchanging information on many new market developments.

LCG Consulting is a consulting firm that addresses the analytical needs of the new
energy markets. We are engaged in software development and analytical support in
the field of energy markets, pricing and risk management. To support our rapidly
expanding client base, we have immediate openings for the following positions.
The Energy Consultants will be expected to conduct a variety of studies using
our in house models in the area of price forecast, risk management, asset valuation
and provide modeling support to the clients. Desired background includes academic
training in Engineering, Operation Research, Business or Economics and experience
in generation planning and scheduling. Knowledge of regional Electric planning models,
power pools and market pricing mechanisms, loads and transmission grids in one or
more NERC regions are preferable. Requires excellent writing, communication and
inter-personal skills and some traveling.
As an Energy Analyst, the job assignment involves maintenance of our regional
electricity database as well as assisting senior staff in conducting energy related
studies. Specifically, the duties include:
- Collect, update and analyze data related to power system economics such as generator
characteristics, operations, transmission constraints, emission, fuel and energy
demand.
- Perform market simulation and forecast electricity prices and generator revenues
using company’s optimal power flow model.
- Study federal and regional regulations/proposals on market design, environmental
issues, competitive pricing structure, and transmission upgrade, etc. and prepare
summaries.
- Write proposals and reports on energy market modeling.
This position requires analytical skill and quick grasp of electric power system
and economics concepts. Training in operation research, business, economics, mathematics,
or power engineering is desirable. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Good verbal and writing communication skills.
The Mid-level .NET developer / SQL server programmer is to deveop, tests
and help us with our energy system simulation software. The successful candidate
will be involved in the full life cycle of the development process, from analysis,
design, development and implementation to build automation, modification, documentation
and maintenance of software product. Tasks will include code maintenance, release
management, test automation and deployment. This position interacts regularly with
senior energy consultants and end-users to ensure quality, scalability, performance
and reliability.
Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in software development.
- Working experience with .NET framework, VB.NET or C#, Windows.Forms
- Knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures with exposure to DBA tasks
- Experience working on projects from specification to release
- Excellent knowledge of object oriented programming concepts
- Problem solving capabilities in system analysis design
- Good communication skills
Desired skills:
- Working experience with release management
- Experience with InstallShield
- QA experience a big plus
