Oklo and Siemens Energy Sign Agreement to Accelerate Power Conversion System for New SMR in Idaho
LCG, November 19, 2025--Oklo Inc. and Siemens Energy announced today that the parties have signed a binding contract for the design and delivery of the power conversion system for Oklo’s Aurora-INL (Idaho National Laboratory) nuclear small modular reactor (SMR). The agreement authorizes Siemens Energy to begin engineering and design work to expedite procurement of long-lead components and to initiate the manufacturing process for the power conversion system. Oklo’s expertise in advanced fission technology will be combined with Siemens Energy’s extensive industry experience with steam turbine and generator systems, with the ultimate goal of generating carbon-free, reliable electricity.
When completed, the Aurora-INL project will be a 75-MW, sodium-cooled fast reactor that uses metal fuel. In September, the groundbreaking ceremony for Oklo's first reactor project occurred at the INL site. The project - one of three awarded to the company under the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) newly established Reactor Pilot Program - is scheduled to commence operations between late 2027 and early 2028, contingent upon regulatory approvals and construction progress.
Under the new agreement, Siemens Energy will conduct detailed engineering and layout activities for a condensing SST-600 steam turbine, an SGen-100A industrial generator, and associated auxiliaries to support Oklo’s first advanced reactor. The power conversion system represents one of the major long-lead procurements required to commence power operations of the Aurora powerhouse. Key procurement areas include fuel, site, and the plant power conversion system. Oklo expects that, since Aurora-INL has fuel material and the site allocated, this agreement with Siemens Energy for the power conversion system will help to de-risk supply chain and production timeline challenges and demonstrates concrete execution capability.
Siemens Energy's Senior Vice President of Steam Turbines and Generators stated, "Siemens Energy and Oklo will develop the best solution for power supply. We offer best-in-class solutions for reliable power supply with the highest efficiency. Oklo’s small modular reactor solutions are ideal for companies with large power demand. This agreement brings our partnership to life."
"We are thrilled to be working with Siemens Energy, a global industry leader and key strategic partner, to bring the Aurora powerhouse online," said Oklo’s Chief Product Officer. "Aurora’s inherent safety allows us to use proven, commercially available power systems like Siemens Energy’s turbine technology. That design philosophy shortens timelines, lowers costs, and turns advanced nuclear into a deployable product. We believe this is a historic step forward for the advanced nuclear industry—a real-world purchase that demonstrates progress toward deployment and operation."
The companies anticipate that their collaboration will be mutually beneficial, as Oklo accelerates powerhouse deployment and Siemens Energy expands its leadership position in delivering turbine technology for next-generation clean energy projects. Furthermore, the companies see the partnership will establish a foundation for long-term collaboration, enabling future scaling of advanced powerhouses beyond the Aurora-INL and reinforcing both companies’ shared commitment to innovation and dependable, low-carbon power for global customers.
The lead constructor supporting the design, procurement, and construction of the Aurora-INL project is Kiewit Nuclear Solutions Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. The Master Services Agreement between Oklo and Kiewit was announced in July 2025.
